We lost our head of the family to cancer last Sunday, August 2, 2009. I thought my family was prepared for it, but I didn't expect the emotion that swept us as soon as we saw Papa lying in his casket surrounded by the flowers he received from the people who loved him. This is my first time to lose a very dear person to my life, and now I know that no one could ever really prepare for it. I know my family feels the same way too despite the smile and the light face we showed to the sympathizers. He's our father and we'll forever miss him – our lives will forever be changed now that Papa is not around.
In the midst of our grief, however, it's heartwarming to see the number of people who paid their last respect to Papa and consoled us in our anguish. The beauty and the scent of the flowers they brought for Papa soothe our soul … I never expected the calmness I got every time I take a moment to look at the flowers by my Papa's side. For this, I thank the people who came and showed support to our family. It would have been more difficult had you not shared to us how your lives were touched by Papa.
Pa, we know you're singing with the angels now and are happy with your Creator. We love you Pa, and we're proud to be your children.
