What Does the Taxicab Industry Has to Thank Amos Tamam

Do you remember the days when you frantically dig in your wallet for a lose quarter to complete your taxicab meter bill in the Big Apple? That's not a good way to start a Monday in Wall Street, is it? Thanks to Amos Tamam, you can now whip out your trusty credit card to pay your taxicab bill in New York and Philadelphia.

Amos has been in the taxi business in New York since he arrived from his home town, Tel Aviv, in the early 1980s. He began as a taxicab serviceman repairing taxi meters then later on inventing ways to improve fleet management including improvement in fuel consumption. His biggest contribution, however, is his work in Verifone Corporation as CEO of Verifone Transportation Systems, Inc.

An electrical engineer from Tel Aviv University,
Amos Tamam made possible the invention of technology that allows taxicab fleets to accept credit card payment. Complete with GPS system log, company owners are now confident about allowing their people to use their corporate cards to pay for cab rides, which is the most abused travel expense item in the past.

That's why taxicab drivers and riders and companies have a lot to thank
Amos Tamam.
